Wow… what a show! As a lifelong Spider-Man fan, this series was an absolute treat. I grew up reading the comics, watching the Tobey Maguire films, and absolutely loved Tom Holland’s journey in the MCU. So, when Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man was announced, I was immediately hooked. A Spider-Man story set in an alternate reality within the MCU? Sign me up!
This show wastes no time throwing us into the action. Instead of the usual spider bite in a lab, Peter Parker’s transformation happens in the middle of a multiversal crisis! A portal opens at his school with Doctor Strange battling a Venom-like creature, and a stray spider from the portal ends up biting Peter. Talk about an upgrade to the classic origin story!
But here’s where things get even crazier—rather than Tony Stark stepping in as Peter’s mentor, it’s Norman Osborn who takes an interest in him. Osborn offers Peter an internship at Oscorp, where he’s surrounded by other young geniuses working on groundbreaking tech. It’s a fresh and unexpected twist that immediately sets this version of Spider-Man apart.
One of the best things about this show is how well it balances its characters. Scorpion starts off as a gang leader but soon gets a tech upgrade from none other than Otto Octavius, making him a serious threat. Daredevil’s entrance is electrifying, as he investigates Osborn’s shady dealings and ends up clashing with Spider-Man in one of the best fights of the season. Then comes a surprise appearance from Iron Man—looking straight out of the classic comics—an absolute treat for longtime fans.
Peter’s circle of friends is another highlight. Nico Minoru becomes his closest friend after Peter saves her life on the first day of school during the Doctor Strange battle. Harry Osborn, for once, is actually a genuinely nice guy, offering a refreshing take on their relationship. Then there’s Pearl Pangan—Peter’s unexpected crush—who used to babysit him, making their relationship an unusual but interesting departure from past love interests. Meanwhile, Pearl’s boyfriend, Lonnie Lincoln, starts off as a genuinely good guy but gets pulled into the world of crime while trying to protect his younger brother. His arc is surprisingly emotional, adding an unexpected layer of depth to the narrative.
Norman Osborn plays the role of Peter’s benefactor, outfitting him with upgraded suits and tech to help him fight crime. But the more we see of him, the more he starts to feel... off. He says all the right things, but there’s something lurking beneath the surface. And when Peter needs a reminder of his responsibility, Osborn drops the line: “With great power comes great respect.” Wait, respect? Not responsibility? Yeah, something isn’t adding up.
In the final episodes, the truth unravels—Osborn has been using his interns to develop Project Monolith, an interdimensional portal designed to mine resources from across the universe. Of course, things go sideways, leading to an epic showdown featuring Doctor Strange and Spider-Man trying to contain the chaos. And then, the biggest twist of all hits— Osborn was indirectly responsible for Peter becoming Spider-Man in the first place! A time paradox reveals that the spider that bit Peter actually came from Osborn’s lab before slipping through a portal back in time. That means Osborn unknowingly created Spider-Man. Mind blown.
And just when you think it’s over—Osborn recovers a piece of the Venom-like creature amid the destruction. What does this mean for the future? Could this universe see Norman Osborn becoming Venom? The possibilities are endless!
This show delivers everything a Spider-Man fan could ask for—high-energy action, emotional character arcs, fun Easter eggs, and a bold, fresh take on the web-slinger’s story. The animation is top-notch, the fights are intense, and that final twist? Absolutely jaw-dropping.
If you love Spider-Man, this is a must-watch. Easily a 10/10 for me, and I can’t wait to see what’s next!
