Invincible Season 3 Review: A Relentless, Chaotic, and Thrilling Ride

Writer: Vinit NairVinit Nair

Rating: 8/10 ⭐️

Season 3 of Invincible was one hell of a ride, but man, where does Mark even go from here? The season starts off with everything seemingly falling into place—Mark is stronger than ever, training under Cecil, and trying to do things the right way. But that illusion doesn’t last long. The moment he finds out Cecil has been secretly working with Darkwing II and Sinclair, things spiral. Mark, still holding onto his ideals, confronts Cecil, and it quickly escalates into a fight against the Reanimen. That battle marks a turning point. The trust between Mark and Cecil is shattered, and as a result, the Guardians break apart too. Seeing how the team disbands and watching Mark struggle to find a new path added a much-needed shake-up to the status quo. It also made Cecil’s flashback even more impactful—we finally see that he wasn’t always this cold and calculating. Once upon a time, he thought just like Mark, but years of dealing with impossible situations turned him into the man he is now. It doesn’t justify everything he does, but it makes his character even more compelling.

Nolan and Allen’s absence for most of the season was noticeable, but when they finally reappear, it’s in one of the most fun fights of the season. Their escape from the Viltrumite prison is chaotic, with Allen proving that he might actually be stronger than the Viltrumites now. Battle Beast, of course, joins in—not for any grand cause, but because he finally gets to fight a Viltrumite worthy of his strength. In the aftermath, Nolan reveals a game-changing truth to Allen—there are only about 50 Viltrumites left. That revelation alone shifts the stakes of the war ahead, making their return a key moment in the season.

One of the best arcs of the season, though, was Powerplex. Scott Duvall’s story hit hard—his sister and niece died in Mark’s fight with Omni-Man, and he just cannot comprehend how the world is still cheering for Invincible. It’s a perspective we rarely get in superhero stories, where civilians are usually just collateral damage without a voice. Scott's anger, his pain, and his sense of injustice were so well done that his story stood out as one of the most emotionally gripping moments of the season. And of course, it doesn’t end well for him, reinforcing how brutal and unforgiving this world is.

On the villain side, Angstrom Levy has fully embraced his role as Mark’s worst nightmare. What started as a character with good intentions has now turned into a vendetta-driven villain, hellbent on ruining Mark’s life. His plan? Unleash Invincible variants from different dimensions to cause absolute carnage. And boy, does it work. The level of destruction is so insane that it makes me wonder—how is society even functioning at this point? Entire cities are being reduced to rubble, countless lives are lost, and yet, life somehow just goes on.

Just as Mark barely survives that multiversal nightmare, Conquest arrives, and the season’s most intense fight unfolds. A battle-hardened Viltrumite versus a Mark who is barely holding himself together—it’s everything you’d expect: brutal, bloody, and devastating. Buildings crumble, bystanders drop like flies, and it’s only with Eve’s help that Mark even stands a chance.

Season 3 was a relentless ride of action, destruction, and emotional weight. But by the end of it, the big question isn’t just what’s next for Mark—it’s how he even moves forward. He and Eve are together, sure, but the sheer amount of devastation linked to him is reaching a breaking point. Can he still be the hero people believe in, or is he forever doomed to be a harbinger of destruction? Season 3 left things in a messy, chaotic, and thrilling place, and I can’t wait to see where it goes from here.
